Atheists Gather Book Popularity - Just Blowing off Steam?

Atheists Continue Best Seller Popularity.

Take a read of the article above. Atheist writers are being rewarded with big book deals for bashing Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. For many, the rise of fundamentalism in any religion is too much, they say buck religion. I really don't know what they heck they're talking about though (and I need to read their books before I bash what they say.) But are you really arguing and providing evidence that there is no god? Or are you just complaining at the seemingly stupid brand of religion that dominates mainstream media.

If it's the latter then I agree and wish I thought about writing a book about it before you did. If it's the former, which it isn't, then you aren't really an atheist, you're just a cranky agnostic.

If the Alpha Course is This Fun I don’t Want In!

Too Much Fun or Alpha Course?

I was cruising the Alpha Course web site and noted one thing. Man alive, they make fun look fun. The ads asking, "is there more to life than this?" are pitted against people, cool people, fun people, having big fun. I mean wow, I'm not sure if I want to go to Alpha cause the 'other' life looks REAL fun.

Alpha Course Cool

But then again, they make a good point, is the example above all I live for? That's the apex of my life? The classy bar and hot women/men? hmmm.

The Persecuted Atheists

A little American village which seems to be predominantly Christian fundamentalist is apparently harassing the local atheist family. The harassment comes from Christian students, teachers, sports teams and stuff. interesting to think persecution comes from the other side for once!

Would this stuff come up to Canada? Likely not, cause either we're too polite or we have no Christian villages.

I wonder how the Jesus would handle this sort of thing?

King Herod’s Tomb Found - Jesus had Triplets

Israeli archaeologists have announced the remnants of the tomb of King Herod have been discovered in a site located 40 years ago. The find is located flattened hilltop in the Judean Desert where the biblical monarch built a palace.

King Herod's Tomb Found

king herod tomb

What has simultaneously been discovered among the ruins is a secret code about none other than the Son of God himself. You see, if one carefully lines up shattered pieces of pottery from nearby caves into three big J's we can mathematical Jesus had triplets. Yes, not one, not twinsies, but threesies.

Rumour has it Dan Brown and Simcha Jacobovici have purchased the rights to the find and will create a short story and documentary proving yet again that Jesus had kids with many wives, etc. Man these guys are gonna make a load of cash.

Those Fanatical Atheists - Rebuttal (Thoughts)

Dan Gardner of the Ottawa Citizen wrote what some call an 'exceptionally lucid' article on the movement stemming from popular 'New Atheist Movement' books authored by Richard Dawkins. I guess I've been living in 'darkness' for the past five years since I've never heard of the 'New Atheist Movement' until now.

Evidently atheists noted their declining numbers and needed to reinvent themselves with a cool new name. I'm one to embrace new ideas and browse the latest trends so I read the article with the expectation I'd get a heaping helping of what's really 'new' in NAM.

Same Old Atheism

Admittedly, I was disappointed with the quality of the article. Sure it was 'lucid' as one reader noted, but I couldn't help but wonder what on earth is different in the 'New Atheist Movement' compared to the 'old Atheism'. This is the same old story of God vs. Reason; depending on where your camp resides will dictate what you believe in.

Here are my thoughts on the article:

So I thought this is an opportune moment to say I think all three of these faiths -- these mighty institutions, these esteemed philosophies, these ancient and honoured traditions -- are ridiculous quackery. Parted seas. Walking corpses. Nocturnal visits to Heaven. For goodness sake, people, the talking wolf in Little Red Riding Hood is more plausible.

Does Dan Gardner really expect me to believe that he along with his reasonable buddies are so far above religious zealots (anybody who believes in a god) that for somehow his opinion and intellect becomes more valuable? Dan, I don't want to live in a world where somebody thinks their beliefs are more worthy than another's--this breeds intolerance.
