Brian McLaren Trip To Calgary Postponed

2007-08 trip in the works?

What's the point of having a blog if you can't break cool news that's nothing but rumour?! There were rumblings that 'emerging church' spokesperson Brian Mclaren was going to spend a few days in Calgary this April. Pomotheo has learned that this trip won't happen in April, however, there are apparently plans for a trip in the next school calendar year.

Who is Brian McLaren? Well if you're a boring evangelical you've never heard of him. If you're a dumb evangelical then you've heard of him and you think he's a heretic. You're dumb because you believe things about McLaren that may not be true.

To many evangelicals McLaren is a controversial figure who has heretical views on things such as hell and salvation. Of course, good evangelicals cast stones before they actually read or chat with the guy. I prefer to cast stones at evangelicals who run off their views without any validity or basis. I will wait for my stone casting till I actually meet the guy. If he's a heretic I'll stone him, if he's not, I'll stone intolerant evangelicals. Something tells me I'll need a lot of stones for those evangelicals.....

(BTW, McLaren is from a bretheran background I believe, 'emerging church' isn't actually a church, but it's a movement that follows some post-modern trends. Of course evangelicals, being modern and intolerant, are slow to adapt to the world around them and thus many find the 'emergent church' threatening. We encourage all readers to do some careful research before crying out loud, "won't somebody PLEASE think of the children!?")

    my friend,
i have read all but one of mclarens books, i am also pretty well researched on emergent. the church i pastor is often called emergent, which it is not.
i agree there is much to be learned in terms of methodology from emergent. the "threat" as you would call it, is over doctrine. emergent embraces a "trajectory hermanutic" as they call it. meaning theology is on an evolutionary track that has come to encompass same sex relationships, ecumenical or all faiths lead to God philosophy. brian mclaren recently endorsed a mayan buddhist book about the 9 ascensions of hman conscienous. the book s called a brief history of everything, he encourages people to read this book to really understand what is going on McLaren says thanks to this book I have an understanding of where the world is and where theology is going."

if we are thirsty for theological water it would be wise to not drink from a toilet. this is just one example of what they mean by trajectory hermanutic or evolving or enlightnend theology. gnosticism always reappears in new wrappers.

w/o throwing stones, we have to be careful not to embrace damnable heresies, which deny the faith. i agree with the morphing of the message in terms of communication, but...again a clear warning exists that sound doctrine will be abandoned.i like brian mclaren and rob bell, their theology however is weak ambiguous.
    peace
