With Great Sadness we Say Goodbye to Internet Monk

Micheal Spencer, writer/blogger extraordinaire, passed away today after a fight with cancer. His articles will be missed, but his contributions will live on. Credit Micheal with being one of the major voices that put a dent in the seemingly impervious modern Christian armor that's leading to a renewal of sorts for North American Christianity.

TheNines a bit of a yawn

Yesterday TheNines broad casted online all day. 09/09/09 has not real significance, but the leadership network had some plans to bring in a few big names for 9 minute musings. I'd like to say I LOVE the idea. It makes COMPLETE sense to have 'conferences' ONLINE rather than getting pastors and churches to blow hundreds to thousands of dollars on conferences and related expenses. For that I give Leadership Network a thumbs up.

However, content wise, I was unimpressed, maybe because my expectations were way too high and because I'm from Canada and the conference was geared to Americans. Continue reading

Christian Spirituality and Blogging

Do they mix? To what extent should people let the blogging world permeate their lives? You can't escape the 'blog'; the expression of writing in our internet day and age. The medium will progress, but it can't be neglected or vilified. I have heard a number of 'old people' who barely check the weather once a week on the web blast regular bloggers for the time they spend on their blogs.

It's not healthy, they spend too much time, it's like watching too much TV.

Although there is some merit to the concerns, somebody who never uses the net for information or expressions can't really enter in the dialogue of Christian spirituality and blogging. Many people are connected with new ideas and share perspectives they would otherwise not find or hear about if it weren't for regular blog contributors. So where's the balance?
